The UAE has clear guidelines on AED deployment in public spaces and workplaces. Is your facility compliant? Here is what you need to know.
Sudden cardiac arrest can happen anywhere — and rapid defibrillation within the first few minutes is the single most important factor in survival. The UAE has taken proactive steps to mandate AED availability across a wide range of public and commercial settings.
Dubai Civil Defence & MOH Requirements
As of recent updates, Dubai Civil Defence and the Ministry of Health require AED units in airports, shopping malls, sports facilities, large offices, hotels, and educational institutions. Failure to comply can result in penalties during facility inspections.
Key Placement Guidelines
- AEDs should be accessible within 90 seconds of walking from any point in the facility.
- Units must be clearly signposted and unobstructed.
- Regular maintenance checks and battery/pad replacements must be documented.
Training Requirements
While modern AEDs are designed for use by untrained bystanders, the UAE recommends that designated staff undergo basic CPR and AED training. GWT offers on-site training sessions in partnership with certified trainers.
